Waco New Year

2023 is full of potential and promise. Our agents are excited to ring in the new year, and we hope you are too! A new year can mean new beginnings, new traditions, new goals, and perhaps a new home to get these all going? New spaces can usher in so much change and growth.

As New Year's Eve approaches, remember that it's important to take time out to celebrate the milestones in life. While setting new goals and resolutions, make sure to take time to celebrate that which you've accomplished. A new year marks a new beginning, and we know many of our customers, neighbors, and friends want to get things started in ways they won't soon forget.

When planning to ring in the new year, remember that the Waco Transit System will be offering FREE rides to and/or from your destination! With a service like this, they hope to ensure everyone makes it home safely! The service will be available from 6 pm to 3 am. To schedule a ride, call: (254) 750–1620.

Waco and surrounding areas provide you with plenty of options for your New Year's bash, whether you prefer something big and energetic or quiet and intimate. Let's visit with just a handful of the many wonderful ways to spend those last few hours of 2022 here in Waco and Central Texas:

  1. Wild Lights at the Cameron Park Zoo – 1701 North 4th Street, Waco, TX 76707
    On December 31, stop by your last opportunity to see Waco's largest holiday light display: Wild Lights at the Cameron Park Zoo. More than a million lights will be on display at this extravaganza. Load up the free smartphone app, and you can also participate in a unique scavenger hunt! It all culminates in a New Year's countdown to welcome the Year of the Rabbit in 2023! (The year of the rabbit officially starts January 22nd, 2023, lasting through Feb. 9, 2024).

  2. New Year's Eve - Prohibition Style at Southern Roots Brewing Company -219 N 8th St, Waco, TX 76701
    Food, specialty drinks, music, photobooths, swanky wardrobes, and a champagne toast at Midnight. This local brewery is ringing in the new year in style. Inspired by the roaring 20s, this one is sure to cause quite a stir. Make sure to get your tickets in advance!

  3. A Night in Vegas (Barkin Ball 2022) – 4601 Bosque Boulevard, Waco, TX
    You don't have to drive all the way to the Silver State to enjoy A Night in Vegas. Benefiting the non-profit Fuzzy Friends Rescue based in Waco, the theme is "A Night of Second Chances." It will be held at the Extraco Events Center and include plenty of celebrations. Visitors will commemorate New Year's on December 31, as well as 25 years of successful animal rescues in Waco. It's one of the area's top charitable events!

  4. Waco Downtown Farmers' Market – 500 Washington Avenue, Waco, TX 76701
    Some farmers' markets close down when it gets cold, but Waco is in a class by itself. Waco Downtown Farmers' Market will be open on the morning of December 31, so you can get your fill of fruits, vegetables, meats, honey, jams, jerky, and various pantry goods. You can also buy handmade gifts. Why not enjoy this beloved Waco tradition while prepping to celebrate some of your own new year's traditions?

  5. Austin, Texas
    Fancy a fireworks display by the water? Just a short drive away is an amazing firework display over Lady Bird Lake. The event is free and open to the public, it is also considered to have one of the most unique fireworks displays in the state!

There are many other locations with special events for new years close by: check out the New Years Eve party at Twisted Sisters Patio Bar. Or perhaps you'd like to join in on the party at J.S. Barnett's Whiskey House? With a range of tickets available, enjoy things like: dinner, champagne, and a party area with live music, games, and more! If you're looking for a daytime treat before celebrating at home with family and friends, check out the ongoing Happy Hour at Fabled Bookshop & Cafe – 1/2 off beer and wine on tap & 20% off bottles of wine all week until Saturday, 31. As a reminder, Fabled Bookshop & Cafe will be closing at 5 pm so their staff may enjoy celebrations with loved ones!

The Waco Fire Department & Waco Police Department have put out notices reminding the citizenry that fireworks are illegal in the city limits of Waco. Damage to property could result in a fine of up to $2,000 and/or jail time.
